A Message From The Cupertino Girls Softball League
Hello Cupertino Softball Families,
This is a very exciting time in the Cupertino Girls Softball League (CGSL). We had a great 2013 season, and are planning an even more successful and exciting 2014 season for the girls.
At the completion of every season, the CGSL Board reflects on how to improve the following season. What worked well for the 2013 season was a trial of the Cutting Edge Softball clinics. These professionally lead clinics for the girls and coach clinics were a welcome addition to our program and were a great success. We also welcomed new girls and coaches at many age groups. While we build on our successes, we also have to reflect on where we can improve. In 2013, unfortunately, we were not able to support a Post Season Tournament except in the 14+ division, and we had a disappointing decrease in interleague games. Also, as seen in other local leagues, the numbers of girls and teams in our league declined compared to previous seasons. We are happy to announce that this will not be the case for this upcoming 2014 year!
New and exciting developments have been taking place in the planning for the 2014 season. CGSL (originally Cupertino Bobby Sox), a leading softball organization in our area for over 40 years, is pleased to announce that we are formally becoming affiliated with another top softball association, the Los Gatos and Saratoga Girls Softball Association (LGSGSA).
The Cupertino Girls Softball League is still here in Cupertino. We are joining hands with Los Gatos and Saratoga to form a bigger, better, stronger softball association, and will continue to provide a positive softball program for the girls (Los Gatos-Cupertino-Saratoga Softball Association).
By becoming an affiliated league with Los Gatos and Saratoga, Cupertino will be able to continue providing high level softball for the girls, creating memories, making new friends, learning softball, and teaching lessons to assist them throughout their lives. While this is a positive change for all the affiliated cities, change for some can be difficult and questions may arise as to "Why". Here are some simple reasons:
- A larger unified recreational league with one set of rules
- Better team formation with more balanced teams in all divisions
- More Cutting Edge Professional Coaching for girls and coaches
- More teams so more variety of opponents
- Post Season Tournaments
- More fields in our local area for games/practice (3 by Saratoga High)
- One governing board made up from all affiliated cities working together
- Memory Yearbook for lasting memories (optional to purchase)
- Larger and More Competitive Summer Program with a unified Travel Ball candidate pool, resulting in more travel teams!
We are all excited to start this affiliated league, with hopes that it continues to grow more with our neighbors. The CGSL website will be updated soon, as well as the LGSGSA website, with more information and updates. In addition, there is a FAQ available at http://www.cupertinogirlssoftball.org/merge-faq.html, which hopefully answers some of your lingering questions.
Registration is just around the corner starting in the beginning of November. We look forward to a bigger and better 2014 season!
